Hi Candy!

I'm a huge fan of Lord of the Deep and eagerly waiting for the release of Lord of the Dark later this month and hopefully the rest of the elementals series. I was recently introduced to Dawn's books although I had been eying her Blood Moon series for sometime. Finally I came upon them at the bookstore and swooped up the whole series, hehe. Can't wait to dive into those either.

Thanks for keeping Dawn's memory alive. She was a wonderful storyteller. :-)

There are a lot of readers, like myself that have only just recently discovered Dawn's books. I was saddened to hear of her parting. Dawn Thompson lives on forever in the hearts and minds of her readers through her stories.

I absolutely love the covers of these books. They're sooo sexy.

I didn't hear about Dawn until recently and was saddened by her passing before I had a chance to meet and talk to her on chats and things.

These books seem like a fitting tribute to the memory of an extraordinary woman.

I never got a chance to read Dawn's Kensington books, she had just contracted with them the last time we spoke on the telephone. I miss her, and her "Rhoda" voice. We lost not only a talented author, but a truly kind person, when Dawn passed.

I discovered Dawn Thompson with her book "The Waterlord". I had reserved the library copy, but after I read about five pages, I literally ran to the nearest Waldenbooks and bought it, along with "The Ravencliff Bride".

I've eagerly awaited all her books, and I'm so sad she died. Her books are extraordinary, and only an extraordinary person could have written them. We are diminished by her death.

It was very sudden and unexpected that we lost Dawn.
She was in a head-on collision eleven years ago, which left her confined to a motorized wheelchair. It's amazing how much writing she accomplished, since she only typed with two fingers due to the accident and severe arthritis as well. She was able to transfer from the wheelchair to her bed but not walk any distance. At the beginning of October she had a fall. Dawn also suffered from a severe circulatory problem in her legs which was a residual effect of the auto accident complicated by her inability to move around much.
After her fall, she was doing well and we did expect her to be right back home writing again after a little bit of therapy for her legs, but that just wasn't to be.
A severe infection developed in her legs which was in part due to the circulatory problem and it increased so rapidly that the medications could not counteract it.
I, myself can not walk very well due to arthritis in my legs and use a wheelchair as well for any distance at all. I was sleeping at the hospital toward the end of Dawn's time there. They were very kind in arranging a place where I could be right there so that she would never be alone.
It was a very difficult thing to see her go through. It was SO SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED. We did expect her to make a full recovery but she just wasn't strong enough to fight the infection.
I know that many of her readers may not know exactly what happened, since it WAS so sudden, so I hope that this will help to answer any questions that any of them may have.
Take care. Candy

Candy, reading your last post I had to comment again. Your sister's story of perserverance sounds amazing and heart rending. She obviously lived to write and I'm amazed to learn she was doing it with two fingers with arthritis. Dawn is so lucky to have a sister take care of her memory like you are doing.

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles too. Please take care of yourself!

Hi Sue
Thank you so much for posting again and for all your kind words.
Dawn certainly was amazing. How she did all that she accomplished under the conditions that she had to work is unbelievable. She was in CONSTANT PAIN. The arthritis that she had was mainly in her hands and that was a handicap even before the car accident. The head-on collision that she was in was a near fatal one and at the hospital, the doctor said that she broke every bone in her body but her neck. She was literally the bionic woman with so many steel rods compounding the pain of the arthritis. She was in the hospital for four months from the car accident, having to go through rehabilitation to be able to just transfer from the chair to the bed.
Writing is what took the pain away. It was the place that she went to where she was the happiest. As you probably read in one of my other posts, Dawn was a natural storyteller. She made up stories for me using a coloring book to illustrate them even when we were children. Her lifelong dream was to become an author, and I am so very grateful that she finally realized that DREAM. I always had the pleasure of calling her my sister, and now I have the honor of sharing her and her stories with the world.
Whatever I can do to see her LEGACY carried out, I will try to do. Dawn did not want to be forgotten, and after all that I saw her go through I can't let that happen, but from the wonderful warm response that we're receiving to this contest and to all of her books that are still being released, I have been very reassured that she will be remembered. Dawn is STILL telling her stories!
Thank you so much and take care.

Candy,
Thank you so much for getting back to me. I was unaware of any of the events in that went on in Dawn's life. I bet she was very thankful that you stayed in the hospital with her though. I am also sorry to hear about your condition as well. I hope that you will have a wonderful day. Thanks once again for the contest and for getting back to me.

To Tami C.

Hi again Tami

Thank you so much for all your kind words and thoughts.
You are very welcome! Many people didn't even know that Dawn was in a wheelchair since she was a very private person. She never once complained about all that she had to go through. I'm so glad that you asked what had happened though, because I'm sure that many of Dawn's fans were wondering the same thing since we did lose her so suddenly and unexpectedly. Of course, her fans would surely want to know the story.
I know that it comforted Dawn so much that I was there with her. It comforted me too. I would have worried myself sick if I wasn't there, wondering what was happening. We never wanted Dawn to feel that she was alone there. Other family members and friends were also in and out frequently and my nephew, Dawn's son, George was there much of the time also.
It's been a very tough time, but my arthritis problems are very minor compared to what Dawn had to go through. I am just so grateful that I could be there with her when she needed me the most.

Take care and YOU have a wonderful weekend as well. Candy

Hi Deidre

Thank you so much for all your kind words. It's really appreciated!
It's been so heartwarming to hear how how so many were touched by Dawn's writing and enjoyed her stories so much.
If there is anything that I can do to help her memory and her LEGACY live on.....I certainly will try to do that.
Dawn was a wonderful sister and I miss her so very much each and every day. I know that she's smiling and she's happy that her LEGACY will go on. She never wanted to be forgotten and from all the warm and positive responses we are receiving, it's so comforting to know that she won't be.
When we were children, her stories were for me...Now I have the honor of sharing her with the world and we are so fortunate that she did leave us more stories that haven't even been released yet...Something to look forward to.
Thank you so much again for posting. Take care. Candy

To Redz

Hi and thank you so much for posting and for your kind words.

It was my sister, Dawn's, lifelong DREAM to become a writer. Although she didn't realize that DREAM until later in life, she knew that she had all these wonderful stories to tell, and she never gave up on her DREAM!

We are all so fortunate that Dawn left us more stories that are yet to be published. She put so much into each story that she wrote.

It was such a shock to lose Dawn so suddenly and unexpectedly. It is such a comfort to see how so many of her readers are enjoying the stories that she wrote and that her LEGACY continues on.

If I can be a part of seeing that happen for Dawn, then I am very grateful indeed, and I am also very grateful for the wonderful and warm response that we have received from so many of her fans and readers.

Thank you again for posting, and take care. Candy

Hi, I loved Lord of the Dark, beautiful story. I was so sad when I finished knowing I would not have the opportunity to hear the stories of the Lord of the Forest and the Lord of Fire. I haven't read the others yet but I'm looking forward to.

Take care,
Dee:)

Hi Dee

Thank you for posting and for your kind comments. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Lord of the Dark!
We would all love to see this Elemental series completed. Right now, we are reviewing what Dawn had completed with her writing before she passed away, and I can tell you that there are plans to release Lord of the Forest. Sorry, I can't give you a release date just yet, but that one should be on the way!
So many people have enjoyed this Elemental series and it is so pleasing to see that another one in the series will be coming soon.
Dawn really enjoyed writing this series, as she did all her books. She put so much into her writing.....She was a real Storyteller!

Thank you so much again for posting and take care. Candy

I love all of Dawn's books Water Lord, Blood Moon series, etc etc my favorites are the elements series I have read the books 1 & 2 Lord of the deep and lord of the dark and will be getting Lord of the forest in December according to Amazon. I truly hope there will be the 4th as well (Lord of the Fire) as I am sure Dawn would have wanted to have the last and final book in the series published and will continue to keep her memory alive. May she rest in peace. God Bless.
